MIDWAY REVIEW

My project has evolved a lot since the beginning. It started out as a means to figure out an essence of who I was, whether that be my art style, or just a general idea of what I like. As the project progressed and I started to sketch ideas in my sketchbook, I switched my focus more into the reasonings for why I don’t know who I am, and what is the cause of this, and from there it started to unravel and make more and more sense I could work with this idea more successfully, and in a way, this has allowed me to achieve the initial aim of the project, as in doing so I have realised something about myself. I’ve also learnt that writing a proposal is way harder than I expected. Each section was either way over the word count or way under, and the pressure of having to perfectly execute my idea on one page made it almost impossible as I was overthinking it and ended up forgetting my aim. I’ve found using my sketchbook surprisingly easy, as I’ve always been a perfectionist and had the fear of making a mistake in my sketchbook as I wanted it to always look aesthetically pleasing, and as soon and I identified my sketchbook as a brain and a book to store all my ideas and document the journey, rather than a finished outcome that needed to look amazing, I believe I excelled in my project, and I was shocked at how much it made a difference. The methods of evaluation I’ve found really helpful is showing work to my friends and family and getting their opinions on it, as it allows me to get an outside perspective of whether or not my work is confusing or makes sense, and this has helped me to alter a few things and know what to do for future outcomes. By the end of part three I really want to have created outcomes including photography and video. I’ve always used candid photography in my work and more raw photographs, however I’ve never taken photos in a proper setup with lighting, and I want to do so to see whether or not this is something I enjoy and if it is successful, I can use it again in later projects. Working with video is something I’ve done in my spare time but never for a project, and I have good idea of something that I really want to create, so that would be great to do in part 3 as I will have experimented a lot. I’m most confident in my reflection and sketchbook when it comes to the assessment criteria, as in both these elements I have tried to be as genuine as possible, and therefore have written down and documented as much as I can. However, I am not very confident in my research, as even though I haven’t left anything out and that is all the research I have, I fear it doesn’t look like enough, as there is quite a lot of psychological and musical research and less visual research than is required. Looking forward, I need to look more into how my project includes the consumer, as right now it is mainly about myself and how this project is helping me, and not a lot about how it can come across to others, and in order to achieve a higher grade I feel I should change this.
